Care & Handling
Our biomaterials are handmade and designed to be handled, folded, and explored. With a few simple considerations, they can be stored and enjoyed with ease.
Folding & Unfolding
Our sheets can be safely folded when needed. The material will not normally adhere to itself simply from being folded and unfolded. However, if a piece remains folded for an extended period of time, some layers may naturally adhere slightly to one another.
When unfolding, gently separate the layers without pulling forcefully. Thinner areas may be more delicate and could tear if separated too quickly, while thicker areas can generally be unfolded without concern.
For shipping, each piece is carefully folded with a protective separating layer between the folds to prevent the material from adhering to itself during transit and to help ensure it arrives safely.
Storage
The material is easy to store. Keep it in a dry place at a moderate room temperature, away from prolonged exposure to moisture, water, or extreme heat.
Water & Cleaning
Our biomaterials are not intended to be submerged in water. Prolonged contact with water can cause the material to begin breaking down.
For everyday cleaning, however, no special treatment is needed. The material does not easily collect dirt, but if a small mark or spot appears, simply wipe the surface gently with a lightly damp cloth.
Temperature
Extreme cold can temporarily affect the material’s strength and flexibility. Once it returns to a moderate temperature, it will gradually return to its usual condition.
If the material has been exposed to very low temperatures, allow it to return to room temperature while kept flat and unfolded. This helps prevent the layers from adhering to one another as the material warms.
Natural Color Changes
Because our materials are made using natural and experimental ingredients, their appearance may evolve over time. Color changes are a natural part of the material’s life and do not necessarily indicate damage.
For example, our beetroot-dyed bioplastic may begin with a deep red tone and gradually soften over time, developing into warm golden, yellow, or orange-yellow shades.
These changes are part of what makes each biomaterial unique and reflect its natural, evolving character.
